As a first time competitor in a Marvel tournament, I had no idea what to expect when I went to EVO North/MWC. What I found was a well organized, friendly yet competitive gaming environment full of truly talented individuals.

Now I am not the type of person to put people on pedestals but I can recognize skill. The people here were truly good at their particular games. As you can see from the results, Justin Wong took the title in a very close match.
I would like to thank Juan who took second place, for sharing some Magnus and general team tips with me. While I am at it I also want to mention VDO who I played, DSP who I also played, Tony K, OmegaRed999, LordHollow.
Personal results
Round 1:
Mike Booker v. DSP
Alright so here I am, just after driving 2 hours getting ready to begin my first match. To say I was hype would be an understatement. I had no idea about DSP prior to our match, so I just took him serious and try not to get caught in any traps.
I felt I was doing somewhat decent for what it was worth and holding my own for a while. That was until I looked down and realized my Guile was nearly dead off assisting. Needless to say it pretty much went downhill from there.
Round 2 {Losers Bracket}
Mike Booker v. VDO
I failed to mention that out of the 2 machines being used for the competition, only one could be used with an external controller or stick. This was definitely not in my favor and is why I say some of the people here were truly skilled.
I built all of my combos around my stick, not anybody else’s stick or an arcade machine. It has to be MY stick! My downfall was apparent before the match even began. I also found it ironic that I was going against VDO; a man who I just did a tribute to a few days prior. Ah, how the universe bends.
VDO ran with his Rogue/Colossus/Ken team and I had my standard Magnus/Cable/Guile.
Problem 1:
Ken’s special canceled Cable’s AHVB’S EVERYTIME! I have never run into that issue before and it really caught me off guard. That is the downfall of coming from a small Marvel community. I never really caught my footing after that and it really just became a Super Saiyan bargain sale after that. (See Saiyan reference HERE) I merely became a child’s play thing after that and I just tried to not get embarrassed.
Later on I got some casual matches in with OmegaRed999 and I believe Arvin. Omega ran an And1 mix tape off on me with Cable and Rogue. But it was for the best because I now see different combinations to learn and practice; must always learn from the loss.
My matches with Arvin went a little more in my favor with me actually winning some. But I did take my fair share of L’s with him as well.
Overall, I picked up some great insight directly and indirectly about the game. I would like to congratulate the staff that ran the function. Although the event had a large turnout out, it was run in a very timely manner.
Videos
Of course I left my digital camera and could not obtain any videos, yet OmegaRed999 and LordHollow recorded the matches including the finals with Justin Wong v. Juan and my matches as well. So I will be posting them here as they become made available.
Here are some random photos I took on my phone before it died, enjoy.

exarchezekiel also took some vids of some matches (some casual, some tourney, and some MM [like GLB vs Myself, which are so far the most recent vids on his site])
